Volunteering
We’re looking to gather a pool of volunteers to help our four exciting facilities at Haslemere Station become a valuable asset for the town, attracting a steady stream of visitors from far and wide.

We’re talking about:
The Signal Box – built in 1895 and in continuous service until October 2024 – now spruced up and returned to a near-original condition. It will enable visitors to learn from experienced signallers how trains were safely controlled in pre-digital times.
The Railway Museum – an amazing collection of mostly steam-era artefacts, focusing on signalling – but with many other items of general interest. There’s also an eight-metre working model of Haslemere Station in the 1930s. (The model is a work in progress).
The Railway Memorial Garden – an additional commemoration of Southern Railway’s 636 victims in the Second World War – being developed as a tranquil outdoor display area beside the signal box.
The Information Hub – a community tourism asset for more than a decade, occupying former retail premises on the station forecourt – which will take on the added role of gateway to the three new attractions.
Ideally, our pool of volunteers needs:
- Signalling experience/knowledge
- Railway experience/knowledge
- Museum curatorial/display skills
- Horticultural skills
- Media and marketing skills
- Membership management skills
- People skills
If you have any of these attributes and would like to share them:
Please get in touch – either in person or by email info@haslemeresignalbox.co.uk – we’d love to hear from you.
