Adopt a lever:
‘Own’ a piece of history
The Signal Box has 47 levers which were originally connected by rods and cables to the signals and points in the station area. These ensured safe operation for through trains as well as goods trains using the sidings on both the ‘up’ and ‘down’ sides of the main line.
Until its closure at the end of October 2025, signallers were still using a small number of the 1895-vintage levers to signal trains through the station.
But by this stage the connection to points and signal was electrical.
